A modular system built to withstand trucking to the job site and being lifted into place by crane is built substantially stronger than stick- built homes. Modular homes on average use 30% more structural material as well as more adhesives and fasteners. In fact, a FEMA study after Hurricane Andrew found modular homes "performed much better than conventional residential framing" withstanding the 150+ mph winds with far less damage.
